Overview

Jesus is likely to have called Himself as a Prophet and Teacher or even at times, just Teacher alone, and it may even have been His chosen title, especially near the end of His life. There was a precedent in contemporary Judaism, outside orthodox circles, for belief in an exceptional Teacher who would play a vital part in the emergence of the Kingdom of God. The mysterious Teacher or Master of Righteousness, or Righteous Teacher, credited with power to interpret the prophets, may originally have been a real person, an honoured leader
