Jesus is likely to have called Himself as a Prophet and Teacher or even at times, just Teacher alone, and it may even have been His chosen title, especially near the end of His life. There was a precedent in contemporary Judaism, outside orthodox circles, for belief in an exceptional Teacher who would play a vital part in the emergence of the Kingdom of God.
